ECAM Lyon makes life easier for its students by providing housing and catering services on campus.

Engineering is considered as one of the career fields of the future, and as demand for engineers outpaces the supply, engineers can expect to find interesting and dynamic careers in the industry of their choice. ECAM Lyon has strong ties to industry and a reputation of excellence in engineering that our students take with them throughout their lives.

These ECAM Lyon advantages give our students a head-start on their careers as 99% find a job within four months after graduating and more than half of them are hired before graduation. Our international focus not only contributes to our students’ development as individuals and global actors, it also makes them more competitive in the global marketplace as nearly one-third of our graduating class is employed outside of France. All of these advantages gives our graduates the necessary tools to compete in today’s economy.

The multidisciplinary nature of the ECAM Engineering program paired with the specialized Master's degree from one of our outstanding partner universities means that graduates can quickly find their first post and advance to senior positions.

Internship & Projects throughout the program

Through practical applications, future engineers gain valuable skills that increase their employability and integration into the labor market.

Internships

Internships are an integral part of the ECAM engineering programs; they are validated with credits and protected by contracts.

Three internships make up the academic program:

  • Industrial internship (minimum 4 weeks): experience in production, maintenance, quality control, and as a factory warehouseman
  • Applied engineering internship (16 weeks): experience in engineering design, maintenance, manufacturing engineering, …
  • Final year Engineering internship (12 weeks): a genuine, autonomous mission as an engineer within a company

All the internships can be carried out in France or abroad. A dedicated service helps students during their research and helps them navigate the vast network of active ECAM engineers.

Projects

The ECAM Engineering program is a 5-year engineering course. This program allows an entry in year 1 only, after approval of the student’s application.

Applications for the Academic Year 2020-2021 will open from November 11th, to July 6th, 2020

Admission Conditions

Year of Study Maximum Age
Year 1 23

As a 'Grande École', we apply stringent application requirements for all of our prospective students. Depending on your situation, you may have different admission requirements.

A rigorous admission process

As a member of the Conference of the ‘Grandes Ecoles’ (CGE), ECAM Lyon operates a demanding selective recruitment process to guarantee the quality of its program.  In order to be admitted to ECAM Lyon, each student must attend a recruitment interview. The interview allows the school to explore the candidate’s motivation and ensure that their values are in keeping with those of the school. Their professional ambitions are also discussed.

Two Master's degree : ECAM Lyon + Partner university

The ECAM Engineering course is a double degree program. At the end of the 5 years, students are awarded the Electrical and Mechanical Engineering degree (Master’s degree level) from ECAM Lyon and a Master's degree in their specialization, in a growth sector, from one of our partner universities.

Specializations

The first three years of ECAM Engineering program take place on the campus of ECAM Lyon and students follow multidisciplinary courses. During years 4 and 5, each student must choose a specialization. He will then spend at least one year in the partner university that offers this area of study.

Students can choose their specialization from the following domains:

Robotics & IT

(automation, electronics & programming)

Robotics will radically transform the economy with automation currently affecting almost 20% of jobs worldwide.Transform the world through controls, communication, and digital systems.

Energy Engineering

(energy and environment, energetic)

As countries transition from traditional sources of energy, energy efficiency becomes vital to solve the problems of today and tomorrow. Play an active role in this transition.

Industrial & Supply Chain management

(Lean management, logistics, industrial organization, factory 4.0)

Industry expects on-time and cost-effective products. Learn how to manage value chain collaboration to create customer value and remain competitive.

Engineering Design

(mechanical design, eco-design)

Manage a design project from specifications to industrialization, solve technical problems, and take the best possible decisions facing many uncertainly, risks and constraints.

Product Design

(industrial design, graphic design, systemic design)

Design accounts for 80% of production costs and environmental impacts. Design “thinking” is the capacity to create value for users and society via enriching experiences. Become involved in decision-making by considering the environment, quality, costs, and technology. Become a creator and develop sustainable products.

International experience

ECAM Engineering is an innovative program combining a strong mechanical and electrical engineering basis and a specialization in challenging and rewarding fields. It is taught entirely in English.

ECAM Engineering program brings together both scientific and technical training, project management, business knowledge, language, international perspectives and a human dimension. In addition to your mechanical and electrical engineering foundation at ECAM Lyon, you will also study one specialization at one of our partner universities.

What you'll study

Double-degree Program:
ECAM Lyon General Engineering + Specialization

Program Structure

Each semester equals to 30 ECTS (European Credit Transfer System), 300 for the Master’s Degree.  Students who successfully complete the ECAM Engineering program will acquire key skills and competencies in the following areas:

  • Basic Science – 15% – Mathematics, physics and chemistry
  • Engineering Science – 22% – computing, electronics, automation, mechanical engineering, design – CAD, fluid mechanics, heat transfers
  • Multidisciplinary projects – 19% – MECH Challenge, robotics project, sustainable development …
  • Humanism and foreign languages – 16% – personal development, communication, entrepreneurship and innovation, inter-culturality
  • Specialization – 28%

Years 1 & 2

The first 3 years form the fundamental scientific base through collaborative learning: Mathematics, Physics, Engineering Sciences. The scientific knowledge base is completed with classes in human and social sciences (languages, personal development, communication, etc).  During the latter part of the first year, professors from our partner universities present an introduction to specialized subjects.  At the end of the academic year, students must carry out a month-long, operational internship in France or abroad.

Year 3

The 3rd year of the program focuses more on engineering sciences (particularly mechanical and electrical engineering) while still maintaining the multidisciplinary approach with professional and personal development courses. During this year, priority is given to the specialization chosen by the student (1/3 of the classes). Each student must carry out a 3-4 month applied engineering internship.

Years 4 & 5

Students will also follow a year of specialized studies in either Robotics & IT (electronics, automation and programming), Product Design, Engineering Design, Energy Engineering, or Industrial & Supply Chain Management in one of our partner universities.

After a 6-month engineering internship, the student will conduct a research project in cooperation with the partner university. This technical project, linked to the field they have chosen, means that the students can pursue their studies with a doctorate if they wish to.
